In progress

The 2026-27 season: one World Cup done, the rest still to come.

The 2026-27 senior season began with the epee World Cup in Casablanca from 15 to 18 October 2026. Everything after it is still to come, so this page names no season winner. It sets out what the FIE decided about the new calendar, what was reported from Casablanca and the dates listed so far.

Status on 26 October 2026

In progress. The first senior World Cup of the season, men's and women's epee in Casablanca from 15 to 18 October 2026, is finished. Every other senior World Cup and Grand Prix of 2026-27 is still to come. No season winner and no standings are given here, because the season is still running and FIE rankings roll over event by event through it.

What the FIE decided about the season

  • The calendar (FIE Information Letter 6-26, 14 April 2026). At meetings in Rio de Janeiro the FIE Executive Committee approved a revised 2026-27 calendar. It favours double World Cups for juniors and seniors where possible, leaves more preparation time between the zonal and World Championships, and calls for strict monitoring of organisation so that conditions are equal. The rule giving each continental zone 25 percent of competitions was cancelled.
  • Reports after each event (same letter). FIE Event Managers write a report after each senior competition and FIE Supervisors after each junior and cadet World Cup.
  • Satellite ranking points (same letter). A change to article 9.3.3 of the Administrative Rules, revising ranking points for Satellite competitions, takes effect at the start of 2026-27.
  • Rule changes from the 2025 Congress. The FIE Congress in Manama on 22 November 2025 amended the World Cup admission criteria (o.4) and the non-combativity rule (t.124), both applying from 2026-27. The amended t.124 text could not be checked against a clean 2026 rule book, so its detail is unconfirmed; what the December 2024 rule says is on bouts and formats.
  • The published calendar. British Fencing reported on 8 June 2026 that the FIE had published a provisional 2026-27 calendar with some events still to be decided, that cadet events were temporarily missing from its PDF version, and that the FIE's online calendar is the main reference.
  • Russian and Belarusian athletes. From the Hong Kong World Championships onward, athletes holding Russian or Belarusian passports take part in FIE events under their national acronyms and flags, by an FIE Executive Committee decision that a search-result extract of an FIE information letter dates 29 May 2026, while press reports date its announcement 2 June 2026. The detail is on World Championships 2026.

Finished: epee World Cup, Casablanca, 15 to 18 October 2026

Morocco World News reported on 8 October 2026 that the Royal Moroccan Fencing Federation would run the event at the Mohammed V Indoor Hall, with preliminary rounds on 15 October (men) and 16 October (women), the individual tables on 17 October and the team events on 18 October.

The Times of Central Asia also reported, citing Kazakhstan's National Olympic Committee, that the men's epee team rose to first in the FIE team ranking for the first time after Casablanca, ahead of France, Switzerland, Italy and Ukraine. The FIE ranking itself was not read, so that is unconfirmed, and it is a position early in a rolling ranking, not a season result.

Still to come

The FIE's online calendar could not be read, so these senior dates come from AllSportDB, a listings site, unless another source is named. Check the FIE calendar before relying on any of them.

Uzbekistan's selection as the 2027 host was announced by the FIE in late 2024, as Kursiv Uzbekistan reported on 30 November 2024. The 2027 World Championships fall inside the window for LA28 team qualification: the FIE's qualification system uses its senior team ranking of 1 April 2028, which covers 1 April 2027 to 1 April 2028. More on that is on LA28. The junior and cadet calendar, including the disputed 2027 host, is on junior and cadet 2026.

Also finished this autumn: Veteran World Championships, Tbilisi

The FIE's invitation letter places the 2026 Veteran World Championships at the Tbilisi Sea Plaza Expo Center in Georgia, with individual events for the 40+, 50+, 60+ and 70+ age groups and Veteran and Grand Veteran team events in each weapon for men and women. The same FIE document gives the dates two ways: its cover and schedule say 9 to 17 October 2026, with the men's team sabre and women's team foil on 17 October, while its welcome message says 9 to 16 October. USA Fencing gives 9 to 17 October. The event is finished, but no results were found. Under the FIE's Organisation Rules (August 2026), video refereeing is optional at the Veteran World Championships (o.105), where it is compulsory at senior World Cups and World Championships.
